ASEC Submission on changes to Tuition Fee Regulation

Yesterday, student leaders met with Minister Doug Horner, and discussed concerns about proposed changes to tuition fee regulation.

Today, we sent the Minister a document which outlines why existing regulation works, and highlights the negative impacts proposed regulation would have on all Albertans.

Alberta Tuition Regulation Changes Part I: the Facts

ASEC’s Executive Committee will be meeting with the Minister of Advanced Education on December 1 to discuss concerns with proposed changes to our current tuition fee regulation.

We’ve put together a few background documents to help illustrate the existing challenges with access and affordability in Alberta’s post-secondary education system, and how changes to the tuition fee regulation stand to make these challenges worse.

The first document is a fact sheet.

In addition to providing a timeline on tuition fee policy changes, it also provides a statistical snapshot of Alberta’s post-secondary system.

You’ll find details on average costs of tuition, where Alberta ranks nationally on drop-out rates, and how students move through the system.
